Hi there! Welcome to the Luke & Ashley blog, a journal about our lives, our beautiful couples, and their stories we get to tell. Stay a while and do say hello if you please!
Henry & Meghan married November 9, 2019 in Norfolk Va. This Virginia wedding was one of our last of 2019 and it was an incredible Downton Abbey wedding celebration to end on! Their ceremony was in St. Andrews Episcopal church and their reception held at the Norfolk Yacht Club. It was a beautiful November day! A bit brisk but absolutely beautiful!
The day started out as always with the guys and girls bustling about while getting ready. We first arrived to photograph the groom and I loved the masculine details we were able to capture. We are not always able to get groom getting ready photos but when it works out we go for it! Afterwards, we headed to where Meghan was. A dear friend of theirs let them use their house to get ready in. This home had so much character and they were such amazing hosts!
Meghan as well had some fun details and I especially loved the purse that belonged to her grandmother. It fit right in with their style and theme for the wedding. A vintage almost Gatsby feel. A very Downton Abbey wedding.
This girl is stunning! And she looked amazing! I still think that out of all the Virginia weddings that we have shot, her dress is in my top 5. One of our favorite photos happened at this time. While I was inside the room with Meghan, Luke was outside and he was able to capture the grandmothers, aunts, and others peeking in to grab a picture of the bride! It was seriously such a sweet moment and that is why I am so glad that there is always two of us so that we can get these shots!
The bride and groom opted for a first look and I am so glad that they did! We found an old door at the church and decided it would be the best for portraits and it was! Not only bride & groom photos but that as the bridal party as well. Because the couple did a first look, we were able to get a majority of their pictures done before the ceremony! That means they had more time to party later on!
With the vintage details spread throughout, the attire, and of course the music as you enter the reception, there was a classic nod to Downton Abbey in this Virginia wedding. I came home and shared this with our oldest and she was definitely jealous she couldn’t be there. We are obsessed with Downton Abbey in this house and we loved that Meghan and Henry had some of these elements in their vintage wedding.
As I am writing this post so many memories of their day is coming back to me. Seriously one of our favorite weddings! When we got to Norfolk Yacht Club we knew we wanted to do some sunset photos. The sunsets over there are gorgeous and that evening did not disappoint. We took the whole bridal party with the groom and did portraits on the dock. We didn’t have much room but we made it work. I am so grateful to their bridal party for bearing the cold and being such amazing sports! We were able to get some beautiful photos with that dreamy light!
Everyone partied the night away and the grand finale was a confetti exit leading up to a getaway boat ride. It was so magical! I am so happy how these came out! Seriously can we just start making farewell boat rides a thing at weddings?
Henry & Meghan; Thank you for trusting us with your big day. Not only are you both gorgeous and easy to photograph, we truly loved our time with you! We wish you a lifetime a lifetime of love and happiness!
