Hi there! Welcome to the Luke & Ashley blog, a journal about our lives, our beautiful couples, and their stories we get to tell. Stay a while and do say hello if you please!
I cannot believe how far behind I am with blogging lately! This Obici House Wedding post is long overdue! Brian & Mary Katherine’s wedding was the first time we shot at The Obici House in Suffolk Virginia. I have honestly never even been out there before. What a cute historic home nestled in the sleepy hole golf course. Including a gorgeous view looking out over the Nansemond River. It was the most perfect setting for this intimate wedding.
When you drive up, you have Mr. Peanut himself to greet you. I think that I might have known that the founder of Mr. Peanut was from this area but I never really dug into his history. I, of course, had to go read up on him afterward and I love everything this man stands for. An Italian immigrant who wanted to bring his family over to the states became innovative and persistent in his endeavors. With an entrepreneur spirit and marketing knowledge, he catapulted his business to be America’s favorite snack in the early nineteen hundreds.
Brian & Mary Katherine are so kind and inviting. They have this knack for making everyone feel like old friends and family. Deciding on having their wedding in this home fit them so perfectly. The historic Obici house was full of charm and warmth. With the black and white floors and the rooms where guests could slip away for conversation, it was a unique venue that fit the couples needs. Originally, the two had planned on having an outdoor ceremony. It would overlook the water and ideally, it would have been picture perfect. Unfortunately, life just does not work that way. The rain came in and rained all the way up to the cocktail hour. The wedding had to be moved inside and guests squeezed in to watch the newlyweds.
It was not only a joining of husband and wife but also of family. Sweet little Madison just beamed as she watched her family become one.
Right after the ceremony, the sun came out. We were able to take the new Mr. & Mrs. out for some sunset photos and you all know how much we love those! I think we get some of the prettiest sunsets in Hampton Roads. I might be biased but sometimes I am just in awe of the sky. It was absolutely magical and I might have been squealing a little during the portrait time because the glow was amazing! It ended up being such a beautiful day and Luke and I loved not only being with a beautiful couple but also some new vendors who were absolutely amazing!
Thank you, Brian & Mary Katherine! We have LOVED getting to know you both as well as Madison. We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

They did their first dance to George Strait’s ” I cross my heart.” Dancing in the middle of cocktail hour in front of the house was such a beautiful moment.
