Hi there! Welcome to the Luke & Ashley blog, a journal about our lives, our beautiful couples, and their stories we get to tell. Stay a while and do say hello if you please!
A couple of weeks ago we had the privilege of shooting Austen and Maddie’s wedding at this gorgeous wedding venue outside of Richmond. This spring wedding was our first wedding there, and we couldn’t believe how beautiful the grounds were. I can see why they book out as they do. With so many scenic opportunities for a ceremony and the gorgeous brick structures make such a beautiful backdrop.
It is a funny thing, we have never had a wedding at The Mill at Fine Creek and then come 2019 we have four weddings there! We are so excited to be back there this summer!
Luke and I are so fortunate to get to work with such fun, beautiful, and sweet couples. When we met Austen & Maddie for their engagement session in Norfolk, we liked them instantly! From Austen’s sense of humor to Maddie’s contagious smile, you couldn’t help want to be friends with them. Not only that, but they seriously have the coolest jobs ever. Austen is a pilot and Maddie a meteorologist.
They recently moved to Lemoore California ( which is ironic because that is where I was born)! So planning a wedding across the states had some challenges I am sure. However, no one would have never known the day of because of how calm and relaxed everyone was.
The couple had planned for a beautiful outdoor ceremony. We already discussed how amazing this place is, so we knew why they chose this venue. Unfortunately, on the day of the wedding, storm clouds were looming around. Maddie never stopped smiling and never let these clouds ruin her day. She is a meteorologist, so she has learned to embrace the weather. Before the ceremony, they decided to call it and moved everything inside to the reception area.
The staff was terrific and made the reception space look beautiful for them in a matter of minutes it seemed! Despite the change in plans, these two had a gorgeous ceremony with their friends and family gathered around them.
The clouds eventually did clear, and we were able to get all the portraits done before another storm rolled in.
That is the thing about weddings. You can plan and plan all you want, but in the end, things might come up that are not ideal. However, you cannot let those things ruin your day. You have to roll with it and enjoy the moments.
You can make all the plans you want, but it might not turn out exactly as you planned. However, that does not mean it’s not beautiful in its way. Remember, the rain and the storms bring forth the most beautiful gifts.
