Hi there! Welcome to the Luke & Ashley blog, a journal about our lives, our beautiful couples, and their stories we get to tell. Stay a while and do say hello if you please!
Bridesmaid dresses have definitely come along way in the past few years. More and more brides are opting for their girls towear mismatched dresses. I personally love this style as it gives each girl the opportunity to wear something that fits and compliments her well. Also, the variations in a color palette are always very pretty.
If you are a bride and are wanting to go this route with your bridesmaids, then I do suggest a couple of tips for bridesmaid dresses:
1. Pick a color palette and stick with it. Be sure to show your girls the exact color/colors you want. Sometimes the swatches are different from the actual dress. So be sure to view the gowns in full daylight so that everyone is on the same page of the color/colors you are wanting.
2. Keep the same hem line. This will create a cohesive look with your bridal party.
3. Don’t change up too many features of the dress. Example: Vary the neckline and color but keep the same fabric.
4. Go shopping with your girls. Even though it could be nice handing this job over to your bridesmaids, it is best to avoid future conflict by going with your girls. Make a date out of it and make some memories together. This way everyone is on the same page and their is no hidden surprises!
There are so many options out there when purchasing dresses. Yes David’s Bridal and other local bridal boutiques have great options. However, don’t be afraid to look at your local department stores too! We have seen some amazing dresses come from these stores! And what is so great about shopping at these stores is that they don’t feel like a “bridesmaid” dress. Meaning it can be worn again and again!
Have you found some great stores for dresses? Do you have any rules that would apply to mismatched dresses? If so please share! I would love to hear your thoughts!
