Hi there! Welcome to the Luke & Ashley blog, a journal about our lives, our beautiful couples, and their stories we get to tell. Stay a while and do say hello if you please!
Sometimes instant relief sets in. Other times maybe mixed emotions. Your not too sure whats next?
Well that is kind of where we are today. However, we do know whats next.
That was a good day. Probably one of the best days we have had in awhile. However, we didn’t post all over social media about this day. We didn’t scream from the rooftops as we thought we would have. We just kind of let it soak in.
And after about a month of soaking in, it has finally hit us! The weight that we have been carrying is finally gone!!
I am sure you are wondering what we are talking about and if you have been following along on our journey I am sure you might know!!
Everything except the house is paid off! It feels so surreal saying that!
Student loans, credit cards, outstanding medical bills. 86,000.00 is cleared!
4 years ago we had hit rock bottom. We had very little hope and our dreams were getting cloudy with the the piles of debt and the creditors hounding us. With a failed business and job that could barely pay the mortgage we were struggling!
When we finally found a little hope we grasped onto it and didn’t let go. And it has definitely paid off.
This past Sunday our Pastor preached an awesome service. It was about change. Change is always hard and it takes so much discipline and perseverance. However, change is good and it always makes us grow and pushes us to better ourselves.
However, people get complacent and comfortable with where they are at.
It is easier to stay put than put one foot in front of the other.
Something that our Pastor said regarding change stood out to me…
” The problem is that your looking at how far you have to go. Instead you need to look how far you have come. “
When we started this journey I will be honest. It seemed impossible. And even through it all, there were times where it seemed as if it would never end. The road was so long and we couldn’t even see the light at the end.
Now here we are. That chapter in our lives is closed. As we step into the next chapter in our lives, instead of looking at all that we have to do… I will instead choose to look at how far we have come.
And we just want to encourage our readers that no matter what change you are facing…
You can do this. Just put one foot in front of the other.
Find people that will cheer you on and hold you accountable. Never would I had imagined that we would pay off 86,000.00 when we were only making 12.00 an hour with a family of 5. Never would I had imagined that our photography business that we started because we were so desperate pay off and become a passion of ours and send us on such exciting adventures.
God is full of surprises and he always takes care of his people.
You just have to make the first step and then the next step and the next step.
We want you to know that we believe in you. Others believe in you too. You have a future and those dreams that you are dreaming… They are not unreachable. They are your destiny and purpose. So go for it and don’t give up hope!

Luke & Ashley, I saw your blog post from The Rising Tide Society FB page and I want to thank you both so much for sharing. Thank you, thank you, thank you. A few years ago, I lost my family’s photography studio. The debt, struggles and depression that followed felt impossible to get through and I tried my best to hide it from family & friends because of my shame. Bounced check? …Oh yeah, I get it. I’m finally coming to MY Part IV soon (one more year!), and it was incredibly encouraging and comforting to read your blog posts. Thanks for your courage & vulnerability in sharing — it was everything I needed to hear today. A big wonderful congratulations in this beautiful new season of yours!!!
Awe Jen!!! Thank-You so much for reading. It is definitely hard to be vulnerable and share the dark side of things…. But there is always hope. I am happy to hear that you are on the journey to come out of your struggles as well. You can do this! If we can then you can too! If you ever need encouragement just hit us up! Thank-You again Jen! 🙂

With finances weighing heavy on my mind tonight, I was very encouraged by going back and reading your story. It gave me hope and encouraged me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks for sharing!
There is always hope in a dark situation. I am sorry your mind is heavy with financial burdens. However, you can get through this. Just formulate a plan and stick to it.
