Hi there! Welcome to the Luke & Ashley blog, a journal about our lives, our beautiful couples, and their stories we get to tell. Stay a while and do say hello if you please!
Heading up to Arlington, I always tend to forget how different it is up in northern Virginia. I am grateful that we have several weddings up in the DC area a year because the change in scenery is always nice and I feel like every time we go up there we discover something new!
This was the case for this wedding as well. The Army Navy Country Club in Arlington is such a gorgeous venue! I honestly didn’t know anything about this place and once we arrived I couldn’t get enough of it! The rooms are stunning filled with historical charm and class. The reception hall itself was one of the prettiest rooms we have seen. Lined with floor to ceiling windows that let in the most beautiful light and adorned with gorgeous chandeliers the room hardly needed any decorating.
They make it a point to travel to different wineries and in the process, they collect the wine bottles. They used the bottles as their centerpieces and with custom calligraphy assigned the table the name of the winery. This was such a unique touch that was not only pretty to look at but also personal to the couple. We will be heading to Trump Winery this weekend so I made it a point to get that table especially!
Summers in Virginia means lots of afternoon storms. I sometimes feel like I am still in Florida with this humid weather and crazy thunderstorms! Right after we finished the bride and groom portraits at the venue, the rain came. This meant that cocktail hour had to be moved under the terrace and luckily the venue had cover. John and Sarah were able to enjoy their guests and cocktail hour. The rain didn’t last long and when we looked outside there was a gorgeous rainbow! It was the most perfect touch for the newlyweds. Luke and I rushed to grab them and we were able to get some more portraits with the rainbow in the back. It was pretty awesome. I love when our couples are open to our suggestions!
The country club overlooks the Washington Monument and at night it was especially clear. It was fun to go out onto the terrace and enjoy the night sky with the monument in the background. I loved that this was an option for guests because they definitely took advantage of it throughout the night.
We loved celebrating you two with your friends and family! It was such a joy working with you all and we wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!
